Taking Care Of Your Own Health

Many young women in high school have no idea about how to guard themselves against breast cancer. Many have relatives who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Many don’t know the facts from myths about breast health. And many have questions that we can help answer.
BBHI’s program emphasizes the importance of monthly breast self examination and the early detection of breast cancer. Dr. Jill Biden founded BBHI in 1993 after several of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. She realized that breast self-examination (BSE) was usually not taught until women were older. To address this critical need, Jill gathered breast cancer survivors, community leaders, and medical professionals together to create and plan a program for female high school students.
Today, our program is offered to all public and private high schools throughout the state of Delaware. We are proud that over 20,000 young women have attended our program and thousands more have received information through school and community Health Fairs. An important benefit of BBHI’s program is that the young women take the information home and share it with their female relatives and friends.
